Infographic - Premier League clubs spend nearly half a billion pounds this transfer window

We’re sent plenty of infographics at AFR, but one stat caught our eye. In the Premier League alone, close to £500 million (£476m) was spent this transfer window. £500 million. Ah, if we didn’t care for football at all, imagine how that money could be used. Think of all the children that could be fed and educated, or all the mansions that could be purchased by drug lords. But this Premier League-loving world and indeed the free market set up is the reality in which we, as fans, are subject. Only six Premier League teams made a profit in the transfer market, and perhaps most surprising is the fact that Spurs made a £1.5m profit despite spending £55.9m. The £ symbols and social media stats are in full force above, so what did you make of the summer transfer market? [Infographic via WePlay. Posted by EB.]

Hope Solo’s unbelievable double-save.

With London 2012 right around the corner, the United States women’s national team played Canada (and won 2-1) as they get ready to defend their Gold medal earned in Beijing in 2008. It’s safe to say that Hope Solo is in great form, just look at this remarkable effort to keep Canada from scoring just moments before halftime.
